Standing on the Promises of God
When God made His promise to Abraham,
since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying,
"I will surely bless you and give you many descendants."
since there was no one greater for Him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying,
"I will surely bless you and give you many descendants."
And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.
(Hebrews 06: 13 - 15)
It is an amazing thing to realize that, God who created the Sun, Moon and the Starry hosts, the Earth and all the great things on it, is caring for each and everyone of us. We can imagine, what made King David write the Psalm which tells, "O Lord, our Lord, when I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor" (Psalm 8: 1, 3-5).
It would have been a great thing for King David to realize and a much more greater for us, after knowing so much about God's creation in this century. And all we need to be reminded is, if such a great God promises you something, it is a promise which will be kept until the end and God never fails. If we could remember, that in most of our lives, God is proving again and again that He keeps His promises.
Most of us know that we always look at Abraham as a symbol of faith, who stood on the promises of God. But I just want to ask you, whether you have ever put yourself in Abraham's place. Such an old man with an old wife, until that time God made the promise, they both did not have a single child, and God promises Abraham, that He will make Abraham's descendants like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Have you ever tried counting the stars in the sky? How many were you able to count? God promised Abraham so much! But as a human being, Abraham had the challenge of standing on this promise. It was not easy.
Abraham had to stand firm on that promise until God gave him a son. But even after giving, God asks the same son from Abraham as a sacrifice. If you could read that passage in the Bible, you would know, even then Abraham stood strong and firm on the promise of God. I encourage you to read this passage in the Bible (Genesis 22: 1-19). What a faith. How firm did Abraham stand on the promise of God. Wow.
My dear friend, this is one place, where we need to learn something in our walk with God; practice ourselves to stand on the great promises of God. Everything around us may fade away, all things that looked like our support may flee away from us, but there will be one thing that will still hold us firm. It is nothing else but each and every promise God has made to us. He has promised you that, even if your mother may forget you, He will not.
When the oceans rise and thunders roar in your life, where do you look up to? Do not forget that God has promised you that He will go before you and be with you in all along your way and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31: 8). There were times when we could not stand firm on the promises of God. We had all kinds of doubts on the promises. We could not believe in them anymore. But God tells, "Be still, and know that I am God" ( Psalm 46: 10).
Are we ready to stand on the promises of God, patiently, until His time has come for those promises to be realized. Stand firm, until the end, on these promises, my friend. It is worth standing. So many of our seniors, in the history of mankind, have realized this in their lives.
May God bless you.
