The Lord Will Make Your Paths Straight

Today's Bible Verse
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
(Proverbs 03: 5, 6)

There are certain moments in our life when we pause and ask, "Where am I heading to?" Sometimes we become so confused and begin to fear whether we are on the right path. The path ahead may look rough, complicated, askew and upsetting. While the road ahead leads towards a diversion, we begin to worry, not knowing which one to take. And sometimes, we are stuck and struggling to move forward in the path we are already on because of insecurities. We become burdened and burnt out at the end of all these worries about tomorrow, next month and next year.

The Bible reminds us of an important truth at such times. The verses we have taken for today's thought (Proverbs 03: 05, 06) remind us of the assurance that we find in the Lord. The verses promise that "He (The Lord) will make our paths straight" (06). Amen! However, there are three things that we must do as the Lord's children. The Bible teaches us of these three pillars of faith that make our lives a living example of faith that leads us to seek the Lord's help, care and direction in our paths. Let us look at these three important characteristics of faith essential in our life.

Trust the Lord with all your heart.
Proverbs 03 reminds us to trust the Lord and to trust Him with everything and in everything (verse 05). Sometimes we lay our trust in the Lord with backup plans. We say, "If this does not work out..." "Just in case..." "If not..." "The alternative is..." "Well, that's one option..." "At the same time..." These are some of the casual expressions we come up with when we have also begun to pray about something expecting the Lord to lead, guide, provide and set our paths straight. But that should not be the way for a believer. The faith must be a hundred per cent! We are called to trust the Lord with everything that's in our thoughts. Our plans, our agendas, our frameworks, our estimations and all that we could think of for the future.

Do not lean on your own understanding.
Proverbs 03 instructs us not to depend on our own understanding (verse 05). At times, as human beings, we tend to forget that our understanding of our life and its purpose is shallow. We view things that happen in our lives from our point of view. We try to analyse based on our limited knowledge. We draw plans for the next decades based on what we know about today and the present. But what we have to realise is that we are not even sure about what's in store for us tomorrow! Human understanding is so limited by today and now, and we are so clueless about tomorrow and the day after. Without depending on our understanding of things and events, we are called to live according to the creator's understanding of everything. For sure, we are going to be on the right path.

In all your ways, submit to Him.
Proverbs 03 teaches us to submit to the Lord all our plans and to seek His will in all we do (verse 06). Many times, we go on doing what pleases us and what we think is good for us, and when things turn out to be wrong and a failure, then we begin to think, why does the Lord allow this in our lives. But, if we would look back and analyse things, we will definitely realise that sometime down the line, we had not submitted our plans to the Lord. All that we plan and all that we do, let it be the Lord's will happening in our lives, and for that to happen, we have to first submit ourselves and our future to the Lord. Submission becomes an expression of our total dependency and faith in the Lord and His plans for us.

Today, you may be reading this with a heart full of confusion, doubts, fears, and unsettled thoughts about tomorrow and the future. Your path ahead may look rough and askew. But let this be an invitation for you to seek the Lord first. Just as we are being instructed by Proverbs 03: 05, 06, let us first realise that our lives would be the best and the most fruitful when the Lord's presence is there with us. Let us ask Him to direct us to the right path and to make our paths straight. As an expression of this seeking, let us trust the Lord with all our heart, let us not depend on our own understanding, and let us submit ourselves to the will of the Lord. We will realise as days pass by that the Lord is in full control of our life, and we are able to see His mighty hands working so powerfully in our lives through faith and submission.

May the blessings of God the Father, the love and grace of Christ Jesus the Son, and the fellowship and guidance of the Holy Spirit, be with us as we continue to submit ourselves to Him.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
