Healing Words Give Life!

As a tree gives fruit, healing words give life,
but dishonest words crush the spirit.
(Proverbs 15: 4)

We talk, we listen. We utter thousands of words in a day and we listen to the same amount of words spoken. Studies suggest that the average words uttered by us in a day is almost ten thousand; there's a clear difference between men and women.

At the end of each day, as we lay on our beds, we remember some of those words we spoke and some of those we heard. We remember the ones that made a mark on us. Words that moved us. Words that made others smile; words that made others shed tears. Some of those we heard had made a scar on us. We appreciate, we regret.

But my dear friends in Christ, let me remind you something.
We are called to speak the words of healing!

The Holy Bible says, "healing words give life" (Proverbs 15:4). Just like a tree gives fruit, when we speak the words of healing, it gives life. But dishonest words crush the spirit.

There are two things that we could learn from this verse (Proverbs 15:4).

First of all, healing words give life to others. Many of us have been blessed with the gift of speaking. Some of our friends are there who cannot utter a word, they cannot speak, but they know how to communicate. But most of us who are able to read these lines have been blessed with this great gift of speaking. How precious is this gift. And when God has blessed us with such a great gift, He wants us to use this gift to bring life into others.

We are called by God to speak the words of healing so that it builds others towards betterment. There are so many of our friends who need words of healing. Throughout their life they have been listening to words that have broken them, tore them apart, reminded them that they were a failure once and made them feel useless. And they need words that would give them life. They need words that would heal their wounds and make their scars fade away. We are called by God to share with them these words of healing; words that bring life into them once again.

Our words should encourage, appreciate, bless and comfort others. And these words should be honestly from the bottom of our hearts. Because, if these words are not honest, they crush the spirit (Proverbs 15:4). We are called to look at the good and bright side of everyone, and share with them what we feel.

Let's use this 'gift of speaking' to share words that would see other's strengths and appreciate them to go further. Let our hearts also feel the weaknesses of others and encourage them to become better. Let our healing words give life, just like a tree gives fruit.

Second thing that we learn from the same verse is that, our words of healing gives life to ourselves. A tree giving fruit just ensures that the goodness of this tree is taken further into the next decades and sometimes centuries. So when we speak words of healing that gives life to others, it also enriches our own life. It ensures that our goodness continues. And when our words are dishonest, it not only crushes other's spirit, but also ours. The more we speak words that give life to others, the more lively does our life become. We grow as we spread words of healing and words of life.

There are so many of our friends out there who want to hear words that would give them life. Words that would help them to stand up once again so that they could continue their walk. They are waiting to hear healing words that would heal their wounds and scars; words that would wipe their tears and make them smile once again. And God has blessed us with the gift of speaking. Let us speak the words of healing, and let our words give life to others.

I pray that God will lead each of us towards being such a blessing to many others, that every single word that we speak, would be a healing to others and would give them life.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
