When you bring your First Harvest to the Lord

"He brought us to this place and gave us this land,
a land flowing with milk and honey;
and now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you,
O Lord, have given me."
(Deuteronomy 26: 09, 10)

               With years of imagination, decades of hard work, months of waiting, weeks of pruning, and there at last, the blessing! Something that you have been waiting for. Something that you know is going to be a regular part of your life in the following days. Yes! The first harvest that our Lord is blessing you with.

               It could be the first income out of the business where you've risked your whole self or it could be the first salary that you have been dreaming of in the past years. It can even be the vast amounts of first crops that's being brought out from your fields, or it could even be the first batch of students who are passing out from your institution. Bring them, dedicate them, give thanks to God!

                 There is a beautiful question to be asked. What happens when you bring your first harvest to the Lord? What is that so special about that first harvest from your working place? Why is it so pleasing to the Lord our God and how does that enhance your spiritual form?

                  I encourage you to read Deuteronomy 26: 01-15. An amazing passage that gives us the answer. Look at the life of Israelites and that amazing journey right from the time they set off from Egypt to the moment they 'entered' and 'settled' in the land that God had given them as their inheritance. A moment to remember, indeed with gratitude, what God has done to you. When you reap your first harvest, it is also the time when you look back at the long journey; you look back from the place you are settled now in and you wonder how you made it all the way up to this elevation; you realize how marvelous God has been in your life. A time that you reflect on, a time that you look back and a time that you rejoice over the hard work you have done with the blessings and guidance of the Lord.

                    Another important thing is that, when you bring your first harvest to the Lord, you are declaring in front of God that it was all from Him; bringing a part of what God has blessed you abundantly with. Remember that verse we read in the beginning? "Now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, O Lord, have given me." It is such an amazing thing to celebrate, acknowledge. To remember and proclaim that God has blessed you and the result of that blessing is what you have brought now into the presence of the Lord.

                     My dear friends in Christ, I pray that you will be encouraged to bring in your first harvest to the Lord and when you bring, you would come with thanks giving in your hearts, looking back at your own footprints and thanking God for bringing you this far, and also proclaiming that it was all from Him alone.

                        May God bless you.
