Riches and Honour
Passage to be read: 1 Chronicles 29: 10-20
Today, as you read this together with me, I pray that God will give you refreshingly a new spirit, which will help you to set all your focus on God, and not depend on your man-made plans and ambitions. First, honour God and the rest will be history!
Riches and honour come from God. And He is the sole source of all good things.
Let us set our priorities right. Let's search for God, and the rest, He will take care.
May you be blessed abundantly with riches and honour, as you search and serve God in your daily walk of faith.
Yours in Christ,
Riches and honour come from you. You rule everything.
You have the power and strength to make anyone great and strong.
(1 Chronicles 29: 12)
As human beings who have the natural instinct and tendency to live a social life, two things become significant in anyone's life - Riches and Honour! Many of our forefathers, in the search of these two, have lost their way. They, ultimately, couldn't find the way out, either to find these in plenty or even to end the search. Being rich, by having in plenty of what you want, and being honoured for what you have achieved, are two of the most motivating factors for human beings.
Many a times, the search takes a different turn; an inversion of what is supposed to be. To gain more and more riches and to receive honour after honour, the minds focus solely on them and loses the common touch with the other essential parts of our life.
True! The question is always there. "What's wrong in being rich?" There's nothing wrong! Rich in wealth, rich in knowledge, rich in ideas, initiatives, relationships and even being rich in our fruitful walk of faith. These are all riches in our lives. And being, honoured. Yes, it is wonderful to honour each other and also to receive honour from fellow beings. But there is something more than this.
King David, who was once a little shepherd boy, and later became the greatest ruler the nation of Israel had ever had, proclaims something that means to us the everything! The whole summary of this lifelong search for riches and honour!
A beautiful but powerful prayer of David, proclaiming the royalty and glory of God. 1 Chronicles 29: 10-20. The King and the people of the nation brought in all their riches together to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. And King David, in his prayer when he offered these riches, says this.
"Riches and honour come from You"
Before you even start searching for riches and honour, the reality should strike you. Riches and honour come from God! You have to first learn to give honour and priority to God, and these things will be added to you. The search is not about the ways in which you would gather riches and honour, but the search is about God. Let our focus be on Him.
Let all of our human practicalities fall behind the marvelous presence of God who has the power and strength to make anyone great and strong (1 Chronicles 29: 12'b). It is not the human beings around you who bring you the honour. It is not just even the sole hard work or the rigorous attempts that you make to be rich that would make you greater. It is God, and Him alone!
Today, as you read this together with me, I pray that God will give you refreshingly a new spirit, which will help you to set all your focus on God, and not depend on your man-made plans and ambitions. First, honour God and the rest will be history!
