"My Soul Magnifies the Lord"

"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
For He has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for He who is mighty has done great things for me,
and Holy is His name."
(Luke 01: 46 - 49)

Just try to imagine what would have been the sweet thoughts of Mary.

The Saviour of the World, inside of her. The Central Figure of Human Race is in her womb! Wow...
And she glorifies the Lord! Her soul magnifies Him. Chosen to be the one through whom God-Man relationship is being confirmed, Mary takes in her a responsible part, and that's what surprises me. She understands her place. This young girl is slowly preparing herself to be not a mother for a baby, but for the Saviour of the World.

Reading Mary's Song of Praise: the Magnificat, (Luke 01: 46-55) we understand that Mary glorifies the Lord, praising Him for the purpose with which the child within her is growing. She is going to deliver the promised Messiah from her womb, and how way forward and broad her thinking has already gone. She knows the need of the moment. She has understood the politics that deserves a change. Mary knew, led by the spirit, that she is part of a great mission.

Mary glorifies the Lord for His mercy on those who fear Him from generation to generation. She magnifies the Lord for He had shown strength with His arm; scattering the proud in the thoughts of their hearts, bringing down the mighty ones from their thrones and exalting the humble. Mary's voice reaches Heaven for God has filled the hungry with good things and has sent away the rich empty. And moreover, she remembers God's promise to her people, the Israelites, through their ancestors and she knows that this promise is given.

I wonder, how Mary had understood her place; the place God had chosen her for. She wasn't just a young girl who was excited about what the angel had told, and worried about the tests of her society that she had to overcome. Instead, Mary takes time to understand the promise given to her, the mission for what she has been chosen. She knows the bigger picture. She has already imagined the greater agenda that lies ahead for her, with the help of the Lord. She is prepared! Mary is all set to receive the Messiah...

My dear friend. In this season of remembering the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and meditating the wonderful events that led to this historical moment, I want you to remember that you need to know what you are called for. You must learn and understand with the spirit of the Lord, where you stand in His great plan. And, you need to prepare yourself. Remembering the great calling that God has given you, and magnifying Him for remembering you, His servant, you must be prepared.

Let this season be a season of preparation for you, towards your great calling.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
