The Lord Our Helper is The Maker

 Psalm 121

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
(Psalm 121: 02)

Psalm 121 has been one of my most regular daily readings in the past few weeks. Even though I have been knowing this Psalm right from my childhood and have been repeating this in singing, I am able to see new revelations that I am able to receive from this. Such a promise-rendering and providence-assuring Psalm that helps us to move in faith and to look forward to receiving mighty and unimaginable blessings from God.

If we could read the entire Psalm 121 we find numerous promises given. 'The Lord will not let your foot slip-He who watches over you will not slumber' (03), 'The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand' (05), 'The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life' (07) and 'The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore' (08). And these promises and assurances, especially in this difficult time that we are all going through, bring in the peace and comfort with God's strength to face each new day.

One of the eye-opening assurances that I am able to see in this Psalm is the promise that our 'help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth' (02). On one hand, the promise reminds us that there is, indeed, help for us that comes from the Lord, and on the other, it reminds us that our help provider, our Lord, is the 'maker' of heaven and earth. For a general sense, the word 'maker' reminds us of a person who makes or produces something. But, when we closely look at this word, it refers to our Lord our God who can make things happen, especially and uniquely designed for each one of us, and give us those blessings in abundance.

For God, who is our helper, things do not need to exist. Situations and circumstances do not need to be out there. Ways and openings do not need to be already set up for Him to open. God is the Maker! He makes existing things new, and He creates things new in our lives. And, it is only when we realise this truth we are able to see in faith our God of possibilities beyond the human impossibilities. Our helper is the Maker. Even when things and situations do not exist, our Lord is all-powerful and all-possible to make things happen in our lives. It is with this great proclamation of faith that we should receive the promises that are given to us in Psalm 121.

2 Corinthians 01: 20 reminds us of the same when it says, "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God." As I go through these words, realising what an assurance we find in God, I am also reminded of a poem by e. e. cummings - “i thank You God for most this amazing day,” where Cummings expresses his thanks to the Lord "for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes." I always admired this particular verse, and the last word "yes" in it. Realising the initial promise in Psalm 121, that our Helper is the Maker of heaven and earth, made me realise with how much of struggle to bring out this all-possible help from God, Cummings has used this mighty word. There is so much within this "yes." And let us remember that with God, everything is "Yes" and possible.

Today, as we approach His throne of grace, let us remember that our God, our Helper, is the Maker of heaven and earth. And in faith, we know that everything is "yes," "amen" and possible with God. Let us realise His promises as we come into His arms of abundant blessings in faith. May the mighty and wonderful blessings of God our Father, the love and grace of Christ Jesus the Son, and the fellowship and presence of the Holy Spirit be with all of us as we seek the Lord's providence in our lives.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
