When Your Body and Mind Become Weak

Passage to be read: Psalm 73: 21-28

My body and my mind may become weak,
but God is my strength.
He is mine forever.
(Psalm 73: 26)

We are all running a long run; a race towards eternity. Interestingly, we do not compete with each other. Each of us have got our own race to run. But we surely compete with our body and mind as we run the race!

God has blessed us with a life that stands as the sole witness of His greatness. The mastery of God's creation is seen in us. He has enabled us with the strength needed to live through each day. And we are called to live a life that is fruitful in the sight of God. He is our everlasting strength and God takes care of us through every trial and temptation. But there is something we may have to be aware of. Sometimes, our bodies and minds may become weak in the long run.

There is a sudden calamity between what our spirit is willing to do, and what our mind thinks and our body does. A 'no connection' phase where our weakness leads us to a level where this blessed synchronization in your self no more works accordingly. There are no more unanimous agreements in your self, and you struggle throughout this phase. May be your body and your mind have become weak, and you need to pause for a while, renew your strength in God, and move further.

Things may look out of place. You may be in the condition of tasting failure already. All your time spent of a project, your financial plans, your preparations for the next examination, your family's well being, your effort towards the promotion, your steps toward maintaining and mending relationships, your hard work towards producing the best, your little efforts in your ministry and many other it may be. You may be feeling that you do not have the energy and the strength needed to go further. And this weakness does not stop with this.

The challenge of living a holy life within the presence of God may be your greatest challenge! Your mind and body have become so weak to a level that they no more co-operate with the decision you made in the last prayer. Your prayers of repentance no more make a difference in you, because you are so aware of the weakness in your self and you know ultimately that this disturbed synchronization in you is not going to coordinate with each other. You have lost hopes.

But my dear friend in Christ Jesus, let me remind you of this. When you feel that your body and your mind have become weak, you run to God! Run into His powerful presence. Fall at His mighty feet and ask for His strength. Nothing else in this world that is ever invented or created would ever give you a deliverance from your weakness like God gives. His everlasting strength will overpower you in such a way that all your weaknesses would fade away and your strength will be re-established.

Look at the assurance that the Psalmist has in the Lord. He says, "My body and my mind may become weak, but God is my strength. He is mine forever" (Psalm 73: 26). The word 'may' in this verse shows that we are not sure when we would fall. We do not know when our system would fail. We are not assured of the continued strength of our body and mind. It 'may' become weak at any moment. Everything that was in the agenda may not happen. Things may fall short of abundance. But God will be our strength! Amen. God will be our provider. I think, the body and the mind going weak would be the last of all the falls. And even when that happens God will be our strength if we run to His throne of grace and ask Him to rejuvenate us with His mighty strength. And let us remember that the Psalmist continues to say that "He is mine forever!" God continues to be our strength as long as we continue to depend on Him totally. A total submission into His presence allows us to give ourselves for God to fulfill His purpose in our life.

Let us run to God. Our body and our mind may become weak, but Christ Jesus will be our strength in such moments. The Holy Spirit will be ours forever and will continue to provide us with His strength in abundance to finish the race in this world as a holy life and to enter eternity. I pray that God will renew the strength in all of us so that we could live spirit-filled life and to glorify His name.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
