The Mighty God of Miracles

Passage to be read: Mark 04: 35-41

"He (Jesus) got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves,
“Quiet! Be still!”
Then the wind died down and it was completely calm."
(Mark 04: 39)

We serve a mighty and miraculous God. In the midst of the strongest winds, He is there with us. The storms of our life would come in all different directions but Jesus stands strong in the midst of us. He is our hope in times of trouble. Where else will we run? Who else will understand us the way Jesus does? No one!

The Lord is above all that we would ever know. He has his authority over the land, sea and the sky, and everything that is in it. Every human being is at his whisper and he takes control of their hearts. The Bible says in Proverbs 21 that "the heart of the king is like rivers of water in the hand of the Lord. He turns it where He wishes." And today, whatever situation and condition you may be in, remember, that God is in control. It may be beyond your limits, human knowledge's limit, the medicine's limit and even the nature's limit, but the Lord is surely beyond these and Christ Jesus assures you on this day that it is possible for Him to do the impossible in your life.

It is an interesting passage that we got to read today. Jesus and his own disciples are on the same boat, and there is a mighty storm around them. What a wonderful and thrilling moment it would be knowing that the One who has His control over the storm is also on the boat. And I am pretty sure that most of us would have had the chances to meditate on this particular passage, time and again -  Mark 04: 35-41. And we know what happened that day in that boat between Jesus and His disciples. Jesus commanded to the wind and the sea to quieten and be still. It turned out to be one of the greatest lessons ever in faith. But I would like to take your attention to two interesting pointers of faith in this incident.

First, the Biblical narration of this incident says, that Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion, while the boat had just then been hit by a squall. The troubled disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” See how much they were troubled? Having the Lord of the entire universe with them in the same boat, the disciples couldn't realise that His calmness of being in the stern and sleeping on a cushion was because He knew He was in control. Today, if you are just getting ready to ask Him, "Lord, don't you see that I am in the midst of this trouble, this agony and this critical condition? Don't you care this problem affecting me to this level? Why are you being so calm and silent while I have just been hit by the hardest problem I've ever had in my life? Why don't you answer?" And my dear friend in Christ, let me remind you, that the Lord who knit you in your mother's womb known when exactly to stand up for you, because he knows He is in your boat with you and He is in control! So be assured in faith. Believe that God is there with you and His mighty and miraculous whisper is sufficient for the conditions in your life to change.

Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. God is able to do the same in your life too. And when He does, everything around you would change for the better.

The next pointer of faith that I would like to turn your focus to, is that what was asked from the disciples after Jesus had done this miracle! We know for sure, that they were in a trance. Their eyes wouldn't have believed what they had just seen. They were older and young men, spending their time with whom they called the Rabbi (the teacher) and with hundred of doubts about Jesus and His teachings, loaded with the public criticism on them, they were learning one by one through the assurance Jesus was giving them in person. How privileged they were to witness all these in person.

And while they were still recovering from the shock and surprise, Jesus said to them “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” And today God is asking the same from you! Why are you so afraid? If you trust in God, and if you are assured of your faith in Jesus, and when you know He is with you, why do you fear? Let me remind you this little things that I have shared with you in one of my earlier devotions. 'Faith and Fear cannot co-exist!' You have to be either full of faith that God is in control or you have to hide yourself within a cave and cry out of fear. And as friend in Christ I encourage you to go with the first. Be assured of God's mighty power in your life. Be filled with the faith that Christ Jesus is able to do the 'unable' in your life. Nothing is impossible for Him.

The disciples were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” I want the same hard surprise to hit you soon. I want you to realise in your faith that we serve a Mighty God of Miracles.

I pray that you will always be assured that God is with you in this voyage of trouble and fear, and His mighty and miraculous power will guard you through the hardest times. It may be now or in the coming days. Christ Jesus will stand before those waves and storms and will bring peace in you. Trust him. Today.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
"God of Wonders"
