The Desire to Give

Passage to be read: 2 Corinthians 9: 1-15
"Each of you should give as you have decided in your heart to give.  You should not be sad when you give, and you should not give because you feel forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily. And God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything - enough to give to every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:7,8)

We have learned to receive. "Thank you" has become such a common word amongst us. The habit of giving is no more nurtured in most of our lifestyles. People run towards an offer with a discount or a sale, but very few walk towards the spot where contribution is needed. It's not the purse or the notes inside it, or it's not even the bank balance you have that matters; but it's the desire. The desire to give!
The Bible says, 'God loves the person who gives happily' (2 Corinthians 9:7). More than any other reward that the following verses would promise, be…

Your Obedience Saves the People

Passage to be read: Acts 27: 13-26

"But now I tell you to cheer up because none of you will die. Only the ship will be lost. Last night an angel came to me from the God I belong to and worship. The angel said, 'Paul, do not be afraid. You must stand before Caesar. And God has promised you that He will save the lives of everyone sailing with you.' So men, have courage. I trust in God that everything will happen as his angel told me." (Acts 27: 22-25)
A passage that creates a big difference. 'The Storm', read in full from Acts 27: 13-26, brings forward an important lesson in the lives of many of us who have a greater calling from God. A calling to do His will, a calling to serve God and a calling to faithfully complete the task that God has given into our hands. There are challenges and obstacles as we wade through the waves, but that burning passion keeps us moving.
In the life of the apostle Paul, there was such a season of never ending stream of passion flowing…

God's Way, without His Footprints

Passage to be read: Psalm 77
You made a way through the sea and paths through the deep waters, but your footprints were not seen. (Psalm 77: 19)
The greatness of our God is felt in all parts of our life. In all kinds of moments, His ever-sustaining love and guidance gives us the strength. And His grace is sufficient for us in all times whether it could be a joyous celebration or even a mourning emptiness. The Psalmist wonders at the mighty things that God our Father has done and enthrones God with praise as he sings of the greatness of the Lord. But there is this verse which we have taken for our thinking today, as it goes a step further. With exaltation in His heart and song, the Psalmist remembers all the great moments that God has done wondrous things in His life. He says, in Psalm 77:11,12.. "I remember what the Lord did; I remember the miracles you did long ago.  I think about all the things you did  and consider your deeds"
It is not something that happens randomly in a natural…

Love, through Knowledge and Obedience

Passage to read: John 14: 15 - 24

"Those who know my commands and obey them are the ones who love me,  and my Father will love those who love me.  I will love them and will show myself to them." (John 14: 21)
As children of God, as followers of Christ Jesus and being led by the Holy Spirit, we know that we love Him. Our love towards our Creator grows with every realization of His wonderful blessings and gifts given in our lives. We learn to love Him through every hard toil and difficulty we come through with His help.
We begin to show our Lord that we love Him with all our hearts by worshipping Him in full dedication. With every thanksgiving we proclaim that He has done this much in our lives and thus we love Him for what He is in our lives. But, my dear friends in Christ, I believe there is more. We need to go a step further to truly express our love towards our Lord. More than our worship and thanksgiving, there is something more that God wants us to do, to show that we love Hi…

Knowing His Voice

Passage to be read: John 10: 1 - 6

He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.  When He brings all His sheep out, He goes ahead of them,  and they follow Him because they know His voice.  (John 10: 04)
The picture of seeing our God as our own shepherd and we being His sheep is something that we always do. It is not just a result of someone's spark of imagination, but a truth that was told by Christ Jesus himself; "I am the good shepherd" (John 10: 11). And, many a time, we have seen the picture of Jesus as shepherd, with His flock of sheep around Him, tending the youngest. And let me lead you into a paradigm that we also need to look at the same as a responsibility of ourselves.
It is very interesting to see that the verse that we have taken for our meditation (John 10: 04), has the word "out" twice in it, and I believe that the New Century Version of the Bible has it purposefully. The sheep that are kept in the paddocks or yards are taken 'out.' And,…

The Truth Will Make Us Free

Passage to be read: John 8:31-47

So Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, "If you continue to obey my teaching, you are truly my followers.  Then you will know the truth and the truth will make you free." (John 08:31)
There are avenues that call you to walk through for freedom. There are ways in which you could go in search of deliverance to keep you away from issues. But one of the most precious and powerful thing that could save your soul through eternity is Truth.
Having the true knowledge of what we are, what is our purpose, where we are heading towards and who is in control, directs us to the reality. Slowly and steadily, as you move towards the realization of reality, you learn the truth. But in the walk of faith, the Truth is not learned by the realization of reality, but by faith. You see the reality of your life and surroundings through your faith, and this in turn teaches you the truth.
There are millions of people in this world who have sacrificed their entire lif…

Saul's Servant Did Not Give Up!

Passage to be read: 1 Samuel 09: 01 - 13

But the servant answered, "A man of God is in this town.  People respect him because everything he says comes true.  Let's get into the town now.  Maybe he can tell us something about the journey we have taken. ( 1 Samuel 09: 06 )

God calls us to be active members in His mission. As people who serve a living God, we are called to work with faith, keep ourselves active throughout and also to encourage others in the same mission to continue their walk of faith. A lot of times, we are called to be catalysts in the faith walk of many others; helping them to progress in their journey by helping them not to give up in times of struggles, hardships and tiring moments. And that's a faithful servanthood!
In the passage we have read above, we find an interesting narration of a journey; a journey that determined Israel's history. Saul, the chosen one by God to be the first king of Israel, sets forth in a journey in search of his father's don…
