When You Are Weak

Passage to be read: 2 Corinthians 12: 1 - 10

But He said to me, "My grace is enough for you.
When you are weak, my power is made perfect in you."
So I am very happy to brag about my weaknesses.
Then Christ's power can live in me.
(2 Corinthians 12: 09)

One of the hardest battles we face in our daily life is to acknowledge and accept that we are weak. There may be many areas in our lives, in which, we are very strong and we may be weak in few. But we refuse to accept. Our human walls built around our minds always tend to convince us to be away from the 'weakness tag.' And many a times we end up as people who struggle behind the scene, just because we couldn't accept our weaknesses and we strive hard to cover it up.

Look what the Apostle Paul says. He says that he is very happy to brag about his weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:09), and he has his own reasons for telling so. In a world where people wait for opportunities to brag about their strengths, here we find Paul saying that he is very happy to brag about his weaknesses. Quite different, isn't it? We need to look into his reasons. From where does he obtain this uniqueness?

As we read the passage for the day, we find out that Paul is assured of God's grace. And he is promised with God's power to be made perfect in him when he is weak. Isn't it wonderful to realise? And even today, as you read this passage with the numerous weakness that would lie down within you, God promises that He will make his power perfect in you. When you are weak, God's power is made perfect in you. Whatever the situation you are in, from wherever you are calling, whatever your latest relationship status with God would be, and even if you had forgotten God in the long run, He answers you, He still rushes to help you. And that is why God says, "my grace is enough for you" (2 Corinthians 12:09). God's grace is there for you and me.

Now you may understand why Paul was ready to brag about his weaknesses. When you feel that your brawn and brains are enough to face the challenges in front, when you feel that you are strong enough to go through, you are partially depending on your own strengths and abilities; you miss to acknowledge that they are God-given! But when you feel weak, and realise that your whole self put together would not even be enough to handle the situations around, you totally depend on God. Wow. And that's where God wants to interfere. The moment when you fall in front of God's presence and say to Him, "Lord, I am nothing, and I am not at all going to face this without your strength", God admires it. He rolls up His sleeves. He gets involved. He takes control. God waits until you acknowledge His strength, and this happens when we are weak.

A person who feels strong enough in his/her self, has only 'himself/herself'.
But a person who feels weak and is ready to acknowledge his weakness, has God!
Which one do you choose?

So, does this mean that God wants us to be weak in everything? Not at all.
God wants us to acknowledge, that without His power in us, we are not going to overcome the challenges, because 'our strength is our graceful God.' And that's why Paul brags about his weakness. Whenever you admit that you are weak, God's power is assured. And God's power leads you to overcome all challenges with the God-given strength.

I pray that we will always learn to acknowledge, that whatever our abilities, the depth of knowledge, muscle power and influences would be, only God's strength in us, only His power filled in us would take us through. And let us learn to humble ourselves in front of God and admit that we need Him.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
