Returning to the Lord with Dependence on His Grace
SERIES
"RETURNING TO THE LORD"
Today's Bible Verse
"Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him:
“Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously..."
(Hosea 14: 2)
As we continue to meditate and remind ourselves to return to the Lord as part of the series we have been focussing on for the last few weeks, we are reminded of God's grace. We are called to return to the Lord with dependence on His never-failing grace. It may be a call our ears usually hear, but it is necessary. We can only return to the Lord while acknowledging He is a fountain of grace. It is on the assurance of God's grace that we return, knowing that we have acceptance in His sight.
Hosea 14:2 reminds us to return to the Lord with words that ask for the forgiveness of all our sins and ask Him to receive us graciously. It says, "Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him: 'Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously' (Hosea 14:02). If we would remember our learning in the last week as focussed on learning that we are to ask the Lord in words to forgive all our sins, this week we are reminded of the grace that we receive when our sins are being forgiven. We are called to return to our Lord who "is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love" (Psalm 103: 08). In Joel 02: 13, we find the same call to return that is coupled with what the verse from the Psalm we just read reminds us of. It says, "Turn to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity." We find a mixture of what we find in the books of Hosea and Psalms. "Return," "your sins," and a "gracious Lord."
Today, the calling is again apparent and closer to us. We are called to return to the Lord with a heart that depends not on our merits but on His grace. However, there is this loud ringing of words! Like how we learnt last week to come to the Lord with words that ask for His forgiveness, this week we are also reminded to come to the Lord with words that ask the Lord to accept and receive us with His grace. Indeed, the Lord is ready to accept us graciously. Are we ready to return to Him from wherever we are and whatever situation we may be in? Let us return to the Lord depending on His grace.
May the blessings of God the Father, the love and grace of Christ Jesus the Son, and the fellowship and guidance of the Holy Spirit be with us forevermore.
May God bless you.
Yours in Christ,
Ebenezer Veerasingam
