Prayer of an Innocent Believer

Passage to be read: Psalm 26

"Lord, defend me because I have lived an innocent life.
I have trusted the Lord and never doubted.
Lord, try me and test me;
look closely into my heart and mind."
(Psalm 26: 1, 2)

Trusting the Lord, with all our heart, is the most innocent part of ourselves. No logic would interfere. No human possibilities and capabilities would challenge. A total dependence on God in spite of all the situations around us that would say "impossible!" And that's the moment God begins to do the things in His own style. The unexpected miracle happens.

God loves it when an innocent believer prays. Because the believer puts her/his total trust on God and not on anything else. The innocence paves way not to look at the circumstances but to focus on God. And that's why when an innocent believer prays, miracles do happen. It is the innocent trust!

Reading Psalm 26, reminds us of the two important things that we should have in our lifestyle to be innocent. One is, 'Trusting the Lord and Never Doubting Him' and the second one is "Asking God to try us and test us; to do a Full Scan of ourselves."

Let us never doubt the greatness of our God. Whatever the situations we may be going through. Whatever the closed doors that have not been open for so long. Whatever the great miracle we have been waiting for thus many years it may be. We need to remember one thing and never doubt it - "God is bigger and greater than all of these and He is in control!" Look at that word that comes from King David - "Never Doubted." Yes, our human mind is weak, but the strength to hold on to this trust comes from the Lord. If we have challenges that come against this 'total trust' we have on the Lord, then we have to face each and every one of those struggles with God's help. Let us ask God to help us to trust Him. The innocence does not come from the words that we say, but from putting our trust on the Lord our God, even in the worst circumstances, knowing that He is in control. And knowing that He is in control allows us to keep ourselves away from doubting God.

Asking God to try us and test us, is another important part of growing in this innocence - asking God to look closely into our hearts and minds. This is a regular check up with God; a clear scanning of ourselves. God would search and find whether there is anything in ourselves that leads us away from this innocence and ultimately ending up doubting God's power and greatness. And the next thing, God reminds us to get rid of it, while He assures His help. This is the best part of this innocence - this amazing transparency between God and ourselves. Opening ourselves, our heart and mind, to God asking Him to look closer. This total submission is something that God loves in His children. We have to learn to ask God regularly to look into ourselves, search and find the things that He doesn't want us to have within. We should ask God's help in avoiding such "foreign bodies." And that's when our relationship with God becomes innocent and God loves it.

Trusting and Never doubting God, while asking Him to look closely into our hearts and minds - these are the two things that define an innocent believer. I pray that God will help each and everyone of us to be innocent in our relationship with Him.

May God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
