An Ever-Present Help In Trouble
Psalm 46: 01
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
One of our fears as human beings begins with worrying whether our loved ones will be near us when we need them the most. Troubles suddenly erupt, and we find ourselves amid many pressures that may push us to a level we cannot bear anymore. And this happens to all of us, irrespective of our family, educational, economic and professional backgrounds. However, one of the greatest privileges that we enjoy as believers of Christ is the assured presence of the Lord! Undoubtedly, the Lord is an ever-present help in trouble.
I encourage you today to look at this promise in two meaningful parts. One is to see that our Lord our God is ever-present in our lives. And the second is that He is our helper in times of trouble. Together, these promises make this an assurance of hope and care that will continue through eternity.
The Lord our God is ever-present in our lives. Situations may change, people around us may change, and our hopes and dependencies may change. However, one of the unmovable and irreplaceable assurances we have in our lives is the unfading and unfailing presence of the Lord that continues forever and ever. The Lord is ever present in our lives. He is there, right behind us, keeping every step with us and moving every foot in synchrony. He pedals every height with us and enjoys every freewheel down the slope. The Lord knows what is there beyond the mountaintop, the horizon and at the end of the road. And He keeps His secrets to Himself and allows us to live and learn what faith is, preparing us for eternity.
How wonderful it is to have such a loving father, a friend, an eternity partner who never leaves us or forgets us. God's presence is the only assurance that we have in our lives, and that is the only unchangeable precious thing that we have in our life of faith. And today, it is a calling for you and me to acknowledge, appreciate and cherish this assurance in our lives. Today is the day if you haven't realised this blessed assurance before. In your quiet time today, spend a few moments acknowledging God's presence in your life, and take time to thank Him for He has been this far! Yes, our Lord God, Ebenezer, has been with us this far, and He will continue to be in the coming days, months and years too.
The Lord our God is our Helper in times of trouble. Unquestionably all of us have come across times of trouble. There would have been moments when we looked to God in Heaven and cried a loud but muted cry within our hearts, asking for help, to open a way, to provide, to give a solution, to take away the curse, to carry us through and to defend us against every evil attack. And surprisingly, many a time, we begin to act like children and start complaining too. We think that the Lord is being silent, not answering us. But the ever-present helper in our lives sets his watch, ticking the countdown, while He silently observes our acts of faith.
If you are going through such a moment today, please be assured of one thing. We all have been going through the same. If we could ask each other, we would know that every time, I mean every single time, when we were in such troubles, the Lord has never failed, never ever failed to extend His hands of strength and providence. The Lord will definitely answer your cry for help in His way, in His time, and we know His way for us would be the best ever! Trust in the Lord, and become a witness to the assurance that we have in the Lord our God. The Lord, our helper, will guide you and make you realise He is there for you.
Today, as we continue to trust the Lord and believe in His mighty ways of help, let us remember to never lose the faith that we have in Him while we continue to grow in Him and realise day by day that the Lord is our refuge and strength, and He is our ever-present help in trouble. May the blessings of God the Father, the love and grace of Christ Jesus the Son, and the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit, be with us and help us as we become testimonies to His faithfulness in our lives.
May God bless you.
Yours in Christ,
