The Lord Will Hear Your Cry
I waited patiently for the Lord;
He turned to me and heard my cry.

You have been praying for something for quite a long time. Sometimes you become tired. Your spirit feels heavy. You begin to fear that you are losing the strength to pray anymore. You have been waiting and waiting for an answer. And then, there comes a moment when you ask, "Is God listening to my prayers? Does He hear my cry? Will I ever get an answer?" Let us remember, this is normal. Let us keep in mind that we are humans overwhelmed by emotions. And it is not a surprise that we end up asking the above questions. If you are with the same sort of questions today, then the Lord sends you a promise today.
If we look at Psalm 40:1, the verse we have taken for today's devotion, a Psalm of David, we find two important spiritual truths closely attached here. The Psalm shows us the first part, which is about the patient waiting, and the second part, about the Lord turning to and hearing the cry. David writes, "I waited patiently for the Lord," and then he shares his testimony, saying, "He turned to me and heard my cry."
Doesn't that revelation ring a bell in your inner-most thoughts? Waiting! Yes. Patient waiting! The Psalm reminds us of the importance of patiently waiting for the Lord. And this patient waiting leads us to realise the blessed moment of being heard by our loving saviour, Jesus Christ.
Today, while I share the promise the Lord is giving us of surely turning to us and hearing our cry, let me also encourage you to wait patiently for the Lord. Yes, it sounds so good and brings a lot of warmth to receive the promise of being heard by the Lord, but the promise also comes with a responsibility. It is the spiritual responsibility to patiently wait for the Lord.
Therefore, do not become tired. Do not become heavy in your spirit. Do not lose hope. Surely the Lord will turn to you and will hear your cry. But you would see that promise only if you wait patiently for God. Wait patiently for the Lord!
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us, now and forevermore. Amen.
